Not so long ago a cell phone was simply a cell phone. We lived in a world where the idea of cell phone radiation and the risks such as cancer were not headline news.
These days though, cell phones are more than mere tools to catch up with friends and family. During a time often referred to as the information or digital age, cell phones have transformed into something entirely different.
Now that cellphones are millions of times more powerful than the computers that put us on the moon, it’s hard to imagine what life would be like without having a camera, iPod, GPS, TV, games console, notepad, and the world’s entire library all wrapped up into one pocket-sized device you can take anywhere.
We all love our cell phones, they make life more expansive, but as the technology grows and studies continue to flood in, the real question is; What are the risks, and more specifically, do cell phones cause cancers such as breast and colon cancer?
Are Cell Phones Dangerous?
Apple's iPhone has been in circulation since 2007 and since then a plethora of smartphones have hit the market. With over 3 billion smartphone users worldwide it’s no surprise that cell phones such as the iPhone 11 have been extensively tested to see if the radiation emitted from these devices poses a risk to your health.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) which regulates cell phones in the United States has set radiation standards for cell phones at 1.6 watts per kilogram averaged over 1 gram of tissue.
What this means is that the regulating body (FCC) has set a standard for what is considered a safe amount of radiation exposure from electromagnetic frequency (EMF) producing devices such as cellphones.
There are various issues with this such as the industry's method of testing safe radiation levels which is based on heat emission from your device. This approach is dated and based on limited scientific data.
While the generation of heat from EMFs produced by your cell phone can cause cell damage, there’s a whole body of evidence suggesting that vibration is a major player in cell damage. To understand the complexities of how cells and atoms truly function you can explore this paper published by the International Journal of Science and Research.
Another issue with cell phone radiation testing is that it’s essentially self-regulated. Manufacturers have their phones tested by independent labs and if the cellphone passes, the FCC approves it for release.
Due to this questionable method of regulation and in response to growing evidence of studies that suggest cellphones emit dangerous levels of radiation and can cause cancerous tumors in areas such as the breast and colon, a variety of different institutions such as The RF (Radio Frequency) Exposure Lab in California have done their own lab testing.
Conflicting Results: iPhone 7 & iPhone 11 Radiation Exposure
In 2019 The RF Exposure Lab sponsored an investigation by the Chicago Tribune to see if cell phones such as the iPhone 7 and 11 were operating within the safety limits set by the FCC. The lab results concluded that both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 11 produced radiation levels twice as high as federal safety limits.
These results were far different from what Apple reported which led to Penumbra Bands funding a study conducted by The RF Exposure Lab to reveal the same results. Ryan McCaughey, CTO of Penumbra Brands had this to say in a prepared statement.
"When we bought an iPhone 'off-the-shelf' and tested it the same way, RF Exposure Lab found it fails the FCC’s safety limit."
“Such is the case in a previous August 2019 Chicago Tribune investigation, which inspired the Penumbra-sponsored study. The Tribune found that the iPhone 7 similarly had double the rate of radiation that the FCC deems safe for use and other smartphone makers, like Samsung and Motorola, also exceeded the safety threshold.”
So why are these results conflicting with the manufacturer’s results? The likely reason according to McCaughey is that "The FCC limits are over 20 years old."
Indeed, the FCC set it’s radiofrequency radiation standards some 25 years ago long before smartphones were conceived of.
Another issue with relying on the regulation set by the FCC is that Specific Absorption Rate (how much radiation you receive) is based on a very poor and inaccurate assessment of how people use their cellphones.
The FCC sets the test at five millimeters from the body. While that might sound close, in reality, the cellphone you keep in your pocket is more like two millimeters from your body!
An unrealistic testing modality coupled with an outdated radiation assessment and unreliable lab testing methods, which allow cell phone manufacturers to essentially ‘control’ the radiation test results of their devices, has led to misleading information, which in many cases, is proven wrong by non-affiliated companies concerned with the poor testing methods used by the industry.
A Cause For Concern?
Certainly, there is a reason for concern considering that the World Health Organization (WHO) has classified EMF radiation as a possible carcinogen to humans while the National Institution of Health has found clear evidence, based on animal studies, that EMF radiation created by cell phones using 4G and 5G technology causes cancer.
In essence, EMFs or Radio Frequency Radiation is a real cause for concerns as even the FCC themselves state
“It has been known for many years that exposure to very high levels of RF radiation can be harmful due to the ability of RF energy to heat biological tissue rapidly.”
The high levels of radiation that is emitted from today's modern cell phones operate in the same way a microwave cooks food. Organs such as your eyes, breasts, and testes are particularly vulnerable because there’s not enough blood flow to cool them down after a relatively short period of exposure to cell phones such as the iPhone.
Ellie Marks, executive director of nonprofit California Brain Tumor Association, who has been arguing for the FCC and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to reassess their guidelines for radiation from cellphones following the development of a brain tumor suffered by her husband from what they believe to be caused by long-term cell phone use.
As well as testifying before Congress, Marks told ‘Healthline’, an online publication made up of MD’s and psychotherapists that the industry is “out of control”.
“The industry, FDA and FCC keep repeating the mantra that there is no evidence of harm. That is a blatant lie, but they need to do this for liability reasons,” Marks continued; “There is extensive research proving cell phone radiation is causing DNA damage and cancer — not just brain, but salivary gland, thyroid, breast, damage to fetuses, damage to sperm, miscarriages, bone cancer and more.”
Clearly there is a conflict of interest in the industry. Despite a plethora of studies pointing to the dangerous effects of cellphone radiation, manufacturers and regulators continue to produce devices that, when truly tested by an independent lab, can be seen as dangerous to your health and potentially cancer-causing.
Cell Phone Radiation and Cancer
While the verdict is still out on whether or not cell phone radiation poses risks such as cancer, here at Omnia we are focused on providing you with as much evidence as possible to protect yourself and family from the imbalance of cells caused by radiation.
In this video, Dr. Oz discusses the studies that say cell phone radiation is harmful to your body and how it can affect you.
Although most cell phones come with a warning to avoid direct skin contact with the device, not enough is being done to warn the public about the risks.
Considering that most people hold a phone to their head, it should be common knowledge that there are serious associated health risks. Unfortunately, it’s not common knowledge and the public are being bamboozled by conflicting information and studies.
In a report by the National Toxicology Program, researchers found that exposure to very high signal cell phone radiation led to an increased risk in malignant gliomas in the brain and schwannomas (tumors that form in the nerve sheath) of the heart in male rats.
Otis W. Brawley, MD and chief medical officer of the American Cancer Society called this study “good science” and added:
“The NTP report linking radiofrequency radiation (RFR) to two types of cancer marks a paradigm shift in our understanding of radiation and cancer risk. The findings are unexpected; we wouldn’t reasonably expect non-ionizing radiation to cause these tumors. This is a striking example of why serious study is so important in evaluating cancer risk. It’s interesting to note that early studies on the link between lung cancer and smoking had similar resistance since theoretical arguments at the time suggested that there could not be a link.”
The study found a dose-response effect meaning that the higher the dose of exposure to radiation from cell phones, the higher the risk. These results reinforce previous research suggesting that cell phone radiation can increase the risk of gliomas and brain cancer.
One of the most alarming connections between cellphone use and cancer is the ever-increasing case reports of young women with no family history being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Tumors located directly underneath the skin where women are using their bras to store their cell phones are being reported on a regular basis.
Jennifer Simmons, a board-certified breast surgeon and the chief of breast surgery at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery in Philadelphia claims that “Without question, cell phones emit radiation”. She goes on to explain that “Even low-level radiation builds over time. There is conclusive evidence that radiation is associated with increased risk of cancers.”
In a series of video testimonials collected by The Environmental Health Trust, doctors, officials, and regular women share their experience and knowledge regarding the link between cell phones and cancer. You can download this fact sheet with doctor’s recommendations for protecting yourself from breast cancer-related cellphone use.
A Balancing Act
Omnia’s unique science based on the work of radiation and energy expert Dr Ilija Lakicevic seeks to reveal how the cell phone industries measure of heat to judge whether their radiating devices are safe, is fundamentally flawed.
To better understand the risks of cell phone radiation we must understand that the vibrational pattern of the radiation waves created by wireless devices is imbalanced. This leads to an imbalance of the human cell which in essence leads to “bad vibes”.
When it comes to your cell phone you are at a high risk of developing issues due to the level of cell imbalancing radiation these devices emit.
We have given cell phones a radiation exposure rating of 10/10 based on the amount of radiation they give off, the frequency with which they are used, and how close they come into contact with your skin.
How To Protect Yourself and Loved Ones
It took decades to prove that smoking causes lung cancer by which point the damage was already done. We can see this in other industries such as the farming and food industry in which pesticides are still being used despite evidence linking them to adverse effects such as the neurodevelopmental impact on children.
Rather than rely on conflicting information and waiting for further study here are three things you can do right now to reduce your exposure to cell phone radiation and the risks, such as cancer, associated with them.
1. Keep Your Cell Phone At A Safe Distance
Refrain from holding your cell phone to your ear and use the speaker to take calls. Avoid taking calls with a Bluetooth headset which produces even more radiation.
2. Switch Your Phone Off At Night
Consider keeping your cell phone in another room. Switch it to airplane mode and consider taking the battery out if possible. Get an old fashioned battery-powered alarm clock to wake you up in the morning.
3. Use Omnia’s Radiation Balancer Pack’s To Protect Yourself From Radiating Devices
Sometimes it’s not practical to follow the other solutions. For a more permanent and powerful option consider protecting yourself from the risks associated with potentially cancer-causing cell phone radiation by purchasing our cell harmonizing and radiation balancing packs.
You can attach these to a variety of devices, including your cell phone, to provide peace of mind for both you and your kids in the knowledge that you are protecting your family from potentially cancer-causing EMFs and radiation.
