Hematite & Pyrite Crystal Healing: Uses, Benefits and Meaning

“When there is no enemy inside, the enemy outside cannot hurt you.”
- African Proverb

Since time immemorial, crystals have been the objects of human intrigue. In fact, instead of tapering off, the fascination with the ancient art of crystal healing is becoming bigger and more mainstream with time!

And if you’ve been reading our EMF crystal blog series, you may already be familiar with the protective powers that beautiful stones such as Shungite, Black Tourmaline, and Amazonite carry within them.

In this fifth and final blog, we bring a burst of earthy, grounded energy and striking metallic luster with two iron-rich stones - Hematite and Pyrite. So without further ado, let's learn more about them and how they can help us.

The History, Origin & Physical Qualities

Hematite

Also known as ‘blood stone’ for its reddish-black appearance and brilliant shine, Hematite is an iron oxide crystal found practically everywhere on our planet and even our red neighbor, Mars! As one of our planet’s primary sources of iron, Hematite was pivotal in ushering in the Iron Age of human civilization.

Hematite comes in various shapes, sizes, and colors - but owing to its high iron and oxygen content, it almost always has a red pigment. Perhaps the reason why the ancient Greeks called it “Haima,” which is old Latin for ‘blood’.

Pyrite

Like Hematite, Pyrite has a rather interesting nickname - “Fool’s Gold” - although, you’re about to see that there’s nothing foolish about this stone’s healing qualities! Pyrite is called so because of its glimmering, brassy to gold coloring, much like the metal it’s confused for. It needs an oxygen-poor environment and the presence of iron and sulfur to form.

Pyrite got its name, Greek for fire (pyr), because when it’s struck against a rock or metal, it ignites sparks enough to start a fire. Throughout the 16th and 17th centuries, Pyrite was widely used to ignite firearms.

Abundance of Hematite and Pyrite

Both Hematite and Pyrite are found abundantly on the surface of Earth. As a common ore of iron, Hematite used to be sourced from all over the world. Now, it is mined from large deposits in China, Brazil, Australia, India, Russia, Venezuela, and the U.S. The glittering cuboid crystals of Pyrite are mainly mined from Namibia, Peru, Spain, Mexico, and Canada.

What Are Hematite and Pyrite Stones Used for?

The two stones have been used for ages for their healing and protective qualities.

Physical Healing Benefits

As a healing crystal that is rich in iron, Hematite is believed to aid in bringing relief from ailments like anemia, leg cramps, and insomnia. It regulates blood circulation and is especially useful for those suffering from high blood pressure and clots. It is, after all, the ‘Blood Stone’!

Like Hematite, Pyrite is also believed to keep our blood circulation in check. Pyrite is also popular in crystal healing for its ability to boost immunity, respiratory function, overall strength, and stamina. It has also been known to have a shielding effect against environmental pollutants.

Mental & Emotional Healing

When it comes to mental and emotional well-being, Hematite and Pyrite truly shine. They are believed to foster mental clarity by warding off negative energies, stress, and anxieties.

Both of these healing crystals also bring about a sense of calm, restore emotional balance - all while bolstering our self-esteem and willpower. Both crystals boast impressive strengthening properties and help in bringing out a more productive, secure, and authentic version of ourselves.

Aligning Chakras

Hematite affects our body’s root and solar plexus chakra, which are connected to our confidence, self-esteem, and sense of security.

Pyrite’s metaphysical abilities are fueled by the positive energy it spreads in its surroundings. By aligning our root and sacral chakra, Pyrite clears out negative vibes and powers our zest for life and creativity.

The EMF Connection

The two crystals share a lot of healing similarities and protective properties, and this extends to their potential ability to harmonize EMF radiation. As a grounding stone, Hematite is not only believed to balance and align EMF radiation with our inner vibrational fields but mitigate the impact of geopathic stress on our body. For those not familiar with the term, geopathic stress refers to the natural radiation emitted by the Earth which may sometimes cause health issues in humans, plants and animals. Because of its X-ray blocking properties, Hematite is also used in radiation shielding for medical equipment.

How To Use Hematite & Pyrite

The most obvious way to use these healing stones is by wearing them as jewelry, putting them in direct contact with your body. By letting them adorn you like rings, bracelets, talismans, and protective amulets.

If crystal jewelry is not your cup of tea, then you can simply place these stones in any nook and corner of your home and office space and enjoy their benefits.

A word of caution about using these crystals for emf protection

Protective abilities of Hematite and Pyrite are only believed to be present in their naturally occurring form and would be absent in any artificially produced versions of these crystals.

The synthetic variant is highly magnetic, while natural Hematite is either not magnetic or weakly magnetic at best. Pyrite is also to be a non-magnetic stone. So holding these stones close to a magnet may be a good way to check if you’ve got the real thing or not.

Moreover, while Hematite and Pyrite may potentially be able to align ambient EMF radiation present in our surroundings, they may only have limited effectiveness around sources of high EMF radiation levels such as cellphones, laptops, wireless routers, and tablets.

If you do want to utilize them, please make sure that you muscle test them for yourself to be sure that they will work to help align your own energies.

Final Thoughts

Just like a rainbow is made beautiful by its many colors, each healing crystal possesses unique benefits for our well-being. By testing and finding the stones that work for your body, we can enhance our physical, mental, and emotional wellness. This is yet another path to our lifelong pursuit of fulfillment, peace, and harmony!
